Why do we wear uniforms?
We wear a uniform for a few reasons;
It’s a way of introducing a sense of Belonging and Identity among ourselves, promoting a shared identity among members, no matter their background. Each group has their own Necker. A red, white, and blue Necker identifies us as part of 5th Frome (Hayesdown) Scout group, while our uniforms identifies as part of the wider Scouting sections and Association.
The uniform is a traditional part of Scouting heritage. A strong symbol of the movement’s history and values, which go back to its founding by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907. It connects modern Scouts with generations before them.
Looking after your uniform teaches Discipline and Responsibility. It should encourage a sense of pride and responsibility and it reflects commitment to the values of Scouting—such as honesty, respect, and service. In the Scout section, we try to encourage this by a weekly inspections
Recognition and Safety is a big part of wearing a uniform. It helps leaders and members identify each other easily during events or activities, especially in public places. They also help the public recognise Scouts during community service or fundraising events – We attend the Remembrance parade each year and all the sections of the group, together in their smart uniform is an impressive sit.
A Scout uniform isn't just clothing—it's a tool for building unity, pride, and purpose.

If you have any old uniforms (without activity badges on and clean) or Neckers that are no longer needed then we would be very happy to take them off your hands. We can help to reduce waste, have uniforms accessible to all and raise much-needed funds for our group, 5th Frome Scouts.
What about the Badges?
You will be given the badges you need.
Please sew badges on as soon as possible, this is another task we encourage the Scouts to do themselves.
