In 5th Frome, our section leaders design their programmes with the aim of the Beavers, Cubs and Scout being able to gain Badges.
Did you know that you can also work towards badges outside of the meetings too? I would also say that, if you take a look, you'll probally find that you have already achieved the requirements for a badge or two, such as the Musician or Swimmers Staged badge.
All the badges and their requirements can be found by clicking your section's link on the right hand side of this page.
Below we explain how you can earn badges at home. We use the Scout section badges here but it is the same for the Beavers and Cubs.

You’ll see a drop down box which lists the different types of badges.
-
Core badge: obtained upon joining or moving on from the Troop, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.
-
Challenge Badges: To achieve the highest awards in a section you need to complete all the section’s challenge badges as well as some activity or staged activity badges.
The highest awards in each section are:
The Challenge badges cover a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.
-
Staged Activity Badges are available to young people from Beavers to Explorers, and cover a range of topics and skills. The stages have increasing levels of difficulty, and a Beaver can begin at whichever stage offers them an appropriate level of challenge.
-
Activity Badges: There are many Activity badges available, which allow Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.
To gain a badge;
-
Visit the website and find a badge you are interested in gaining
-
Print of the requirements
-
Complete the requirements and gain evidence.
-
Evidence could be getting your swimming coach/music tutor/etc to sign off the requirements. Please provide details of this person, if you do this.
-
Bring your work/evidence to a leader to sign off.
-
You will then be presented with the badge – which you should then sew on your uniform straight away
Note: In some circumstances we have flexibility with the badge requirements. Please talk to a leader if you feel like you meet the majority of the requirements but struggling with one or two and we can work out requirements which are still in line with the badge and the effort that should be applied to gain the badge.
